An In-depth Study of Revelation 8 2nd Trumpet Judgment

An in-depth study on the Second Trumpet Judgment of Revelation 8
Since the book of Revelation can be taken either being literal or figuratively, then the symbols will be gathered from E-sword dictionaries and commentaries using the words of the interpreters such as fire meaning war.

The first four shofar/trumpet judgments affect nature directly and people indirectly (compare Mat_24:4-8) and resemble the plagues of Egypt (see Psa_105:29, Psa_105:32), while the last three plagues (Rev_8:13) affect people directly (compare Mat_24:13-22).
The idea that the End-Time plagues will recapitulate those of Egypt can be found in the Midrash Rabbah:
" 'Behold, tomorrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail such as has not been in Egypt from the day it was founded until now' (Exo_9:18).... However, there will be one like it in the time to come. When? In the days of Gog and Magog, as it is written, ... 'A torrential rain, and great hailstones, fire and sulfur' (Eze_38:2, Eze_38:22)." (Exodus Rabbah 12:2)

Compare at Revelation 11:19, 16:21, 20:7.
Consider the function of the Egyptian plagues. The well-known song, "Dayenu" ([It would have been] "Enough for us"), from the Passover Haggadah, says that God through the plagues judged both the Egyptians and their gods (compare Rev_9:20). He did this by turning against the Egyptians the very things they worshipped. They worshipped the Nile River; it became blood. They worshipped beetles (scarabs); they got lice and locusts. They worshipped frogs and found them in bed. They worshipped the weather and had their crops destroyed by hail.

If these verses in Revelation are to be understood literally, then, since God uses nature to accomplish his purposes, one can imagine asteroids plunging into the earth, other materials from outer space darkening the skies and infecting the water, and heat flashes setting fire to the vegetation; and one can seek scientific explanations for such phenomena. But if these are graphic but figurative ways of describing God's judgment and the terror it will evoke, such speculations and researches are irrelevant. There are intelligent, well-informed, God-fearing New Testament scholars taking each approach.

Rev 8:8.  And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain (Jer 51:25) burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood;
and as: Jer_51:25; Mar_11:23; burning: Amo_7:4
the third: Rev_8:7, Rev_16:3-21; Exo_7:17-21; Eze_14:9

The word mountain can refer to a group of people such as a kingdom (Jer_51:25, Jer_51:27, Jer_51:30, Jer_51:58); an asteroid or comet; a volcanic eruption; or things representing authority (Matt. 17:20) such as a government. “The stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth,” Daniel 2:35. Compare Zechariah 4:7; Jeremiah 51:25.

"Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do what is done to the fig tree, but even if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou taken up and cast into the sea, it shall be done" (Mat 21:21). In so speaking, our Lord had followed the language of the prophets, who were accustomed to illustrate by the thought of the removal of mountains the greatest acts of Divine power: "What art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain;" "Therefore will we not fear, though the mountains be carried into the midst of the seas" (Zec_4:7; Psa_46:2).
Even the figure of a "burnt mountain" is not strange to the Old Testament, for the prophet Jeremiah thus denounces woe on Babylon: "Behold, I am against thee, O destroying mountain, saith the Lord, which destroyest all the earth: and I will stretch out Mine hand upon thee, and roll thee down from the rocks, and make thee a burnt mountain."* (* Jer_51:25)

USA and North America is called Babylon the Great.
America (end times Babylon, (Babylon the Great(JA)) destroyed in a nuclear holocaust. (Rev 17:16-18:24) 2016. Some call this "fire" in dreams.

Rome was built on 7 mountains (Zech 4:10). It was destroyed in 410 CE by Alaricus, king of the West Goths.  By some writers, Rome was considered to be Babylon the Great.

Volcanic eruption coming out of the ocean. Like Enoch 18:13. And in the columns of heaven I beheld fires, which descended without number, but neither on high, nor into the deep. Over these fountains also I perceived a place which had neither the firmament of heaven above it, nor the solid ground underneath it; neither was there water above it, nor anything on wing; but the spot was desolate.
There could be a great volcanic eruption like that of Vesuvius in a.d. 79. Strabo tells of an eruption b.c. 196 which made a new island (Palaea Kaumene).

Mount Krakatoa
On August 27,1883, (Month 6, Day 2) the 2,623-foot mountain Krakatoa in the Sunda strait of Indonesia literally exploded, burned up completely, and was cast into the sea, the waters where the mountain stood having been 1,000 feet deep ever since. Following this event, atmospheric waves girdled the earth seven times; tidal waves are thought to have destroyed a million lives; some tidal waves reached England, more than 11,000 miles away; and the explosion was actually heard at Bangkok at a distance of 3,000 miles! Thus, within the memory of a few people who have just died, we still have the evidence that the trumpet of God still sounds above the waters of the sea.  www.studylight.org/commentary/revelation/8-8.html

On July 31st, 2016 there was a 5.8 magnitude Earthquake seven miles away from the Mount Tambora. The Stratovolcano known as Mount Tambora is still active. Its most recent eruption was in 1967. The volcano looms over the Java Sea from the northern shore of the island of Sumbawa, which lies towards the eastern end of the former Dutch East Indies, now Indonesia. Every now and again Mount Tambora erupts. Its 1815 explosion was possibly the most destructive ever recorded. The last eruption at Tambora caused serious consequences for climate and the fertility of the land over much of the world, as global temperatures dropped causing what is widely known as The Year Without A Summer.

In 1812, Mount Tambor entered a period of high activity, with its climatic eruption being the catastrophic explosive event of April 1815.
The dust from Mount Tambora, which had erupted in early April 1815, had shrouded the globe. And with sunlight blocked, 1816 did not have a normal summer.

On April 5, 1815, the volcano began to erupt. British traders and explorers in that part of the world heard the sound and at first thought it to be the firing of cannon. There was a fear that a battle of at sea was being fought nearby.  Month 1, Day 4
On the evening of April 10, 1815, the eruptions intensified. And a massive major eruption began to blow the volcano apart. Viewed from a settlement about 15 miles to the east, it seemed that three columns of flames shot into the sky.  Rosh Chodesh 2, Day 4.

Mount Tambora is still active. Minor lava domes and flows have been extruded on the caldera floor during the 19th and 20th centuries. The last eruption was recorded in 1967 (Jubilee Year). However, it was a very small, non-explosive eruption (VEI = 0).

According to the effects from Nibiru, there will be an increase in volcanic eruptions around the globe.

Fire
Due to the binary star system, there will be an increase of fires and  will effect  or help to cause some of the Trumpet Judgments to occur (Isa 34:9; 37:7; Isa 25:4; Ps 46:6,8; 2 Sam 16:14-16; 1-4 Trumpet judgments Rev  8; Ezek 38:22; 2 Peter 3:10; Isa 30:30; Rev 16:8-9); Nah 1:5 (burned)

Fire can refer to the tail of the Asteroid, war, plagues.

Fire is represented as the symbol of Jehovah's presence and the instrument of his power, in the way either of approval or of destruction. Exo_3:2; Exo_14:19; Num_11:1, Num_11:3; Jdg_13:20; 1Ki_18:38; 2Ki_1:10, 2Ki_1:12; 2Ki_2:11; Isa_6:4; Eze_1:4; Rev_1:14, etc.).
Used as a signal in war Jer_6:1   Display of: In the plagues of Egypt Exo_9:24

     Figurative of Judgments: Deu_4:24; Deu_32:22; Isa_33:14; Jer_23:29; Amo_1:4; Amo_1:7; Amo_1:10; Amo_1:12; Amo_1:14; Amo_2:2; Mal_3:2; Luk_12:49; Rev_20:9; Jer_48:45; Lam_1:13; Eze_39:6

Fire was a frequent instrument of the Divine primitive wrath (Gen_19:24; Exo_9:23 (lightning); Num_11:1; Num_16:35, etc.; Psa_104:4, the American Standard Revised Version “Who maketh ... flames of fire his ministers”). Fire shall yet dissolve the world (2Pe_3:12).

Sea
Sea can refer to a multitude of people, nations, and tongues (Rev_17:15) or the ocean (Psa_46:2).

"The gathering of the waters," "the Ocean." Gen_1:2; Gen_1:10; Gen_30:13; etc.

Illustrative:
   Of heavy afflictions Isa_43:2; Lam_2:13; (Trouble,) of the wicked Isa_57:20; (Roaring,) of hostile armies Isa_5:30; Jer_6:23; (Waves of,) of devastating armies Eze_26:3; Eze_26:4; (Waves of,) of the unsteady Jam_1:6; (Covered with waters,) of the diffusion of spiritual knowledge over the earth in the latter days Isa_11:9; Hab_2:14; Waters of Egypt turned into, as a judgment Exo_7:17-21;
Of destruction Eze_35:6; Of judgments Eze_16:38; Rev_16:6

Symbolic:
     In Daniel's vision Dan_7:2-3
     In John's apocalyptic vision Rev_4:6; Rev_8:8-9; Rev_10:2; Rev_10:5-6; Rev_10:8; Rev_13:1; Rev_15:2; Rev_16:3; Rev_21:1

The word “sea” is used symbolically in Isa_60:5, where it probably means the nations around the Mediterranean. In Dan_7:3, Rev_13:1 it may mean the tumultuous changes among the nations of the earth.

“When Rabbi Akiba prayed, wept, rent his garments, put of his shoes, and sat in the dust, the world was struck with a curse; and then the third part of the olives, the third part of the wheat, and the third part of the barley, was smitten “Rab. Mardochaeus, in Notitia Karaeorum, p. 102.

The plagues of Egypt, too, are again taken advantage of by the Seer, for in the first of these Moses "lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river; . . . and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood. And the fish that was in the river died; and the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink of the water of the river; and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt."* Here, however, the plague is extended, embracing as it does not only the river of Egypt, but the sea, with all the ships that sail upon it, and all its fish. Again also, as before, the "third part" is not to be thought of as confined to one region of the ocean, while the remaining two-thirds are left untouched. It is to be sought everywhere over the whole compass of the deep. (Exo_8:20-21)

Blood
Reminding of the first plague in Egypt (Exo_7:20, Exo_7:21). Blood used metaphorically to denote race (Act_17:26), and as a symbol of slaughter (Isa_34:3). To “wash the feet in blood” means to gain a great victory (Psa_58:10). For atonement Exo_30:10; Lev_17:11; For purification Heb_9:13; Heb_9:19-22.

Rev 8:9.  And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships (Isa 2:16) were destroyed.

This judgment is undoubtedly a giant meteor/comet/asteroid falling into the sea by what some experts believe. Notice the phrase, as it were a mountain. This, again, is a symbolic description. Always take every word of the Bible literally unless God tells you to take it figuratively. This passage is an example of the latter. Something gigantic, as or like a mountain, is cast into the sea and causes a third part of the sea to become blood. A similar occurrence was experienced in Moses' day: And the Lord spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and stretch out thine hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their streams, upon their rivers, and upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that they may become blood; and that there may be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone. And Moses and Aaron did so, as the Lord commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood. And the fish that in the river died (Exodus 7:19-21).
By the commentators, there are three views going on.

1) The popular view is that a kingdom or group of people (Islam, ISIS) will plague 1/3rd of the Sea (multitudes of the people) which would be the Middle East, Europe, and northern Africa which is presently going on. “The stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth,” Daniel 2:35. Compare Zechariah 4:7; Jeremiah 51:25.

2) An asteroid or meteor will strike the ocean (more likely the Pacific) since it is already destroyed of life from Fukashimi accident (nuclear accident) caused by an earthquake on the Japanese mainland island.  Some say the Atlantic.
Trumpet 2: Meteorite/Volcano explodes in the ocean, 1/3 ships and sea life destroyed. (Rev 8:8,9). Affects Day 5 of Genesis 1. Exod 8:20-21.
Gen 1:20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
Gen 1:21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
Gen 1:22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.
Gen 1:23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
If it is an asteroid/comet or meteor then we also need to add.
Gen 1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
Luk 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
Luk 21:26 Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
Exo 8:20 And the LORD said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh; lo, he cometh forth to the water; and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
Exo 8:21 Else, if thou wilt not let my people go, behold, I will send swarms of flies upon thee, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thy houses: and the houses of the Egyptians shall be full of swarms of flies, and also the ground whereon they are.

3) Volcanic eruption coming out of the ocean.
It may be Mount Etna on the island of Sicily which vulcanologists say is ready to blow its top, like Mt. St. Helens. Many scholars feel that the sea on which this judgment falls is the Mediterranean.  www.raystedman.org/new-testament/revelation/angels-of-doom
